Stars Benjamin Bratt, Taylor Lautner, and Tinsel Korey joined the effort to bring relief money to victims of the Haiti earthquake.
On Friday, January 22, 2010, the Hope for Haiti Now telethon aired over many television networks, radio, and online via live streaming. As of this article the current total raised from the event is over $50 million and counting. The Haiti earthquake has wrecked havoc in the lives of so many people and the global community stepped up to lend a hand. Benjamin Bratt (Qechua) and Taylor Lautner (Ottawa/Potawatomi) were two of many celebrities who got involved in the effort by answering calls for the telethon and taking donation information.
Tinsel Korey (Anishinaabe) has helped to spread the word via her guest column at MTV.com. The column was written to help bring attention to the Hope for Haiti telethon and served as an inspiration and call for support.
According to the telethon organizers, the Hope for Haiti Now telethon has raised over $57 million. The event, which was led by Haiti-born rapper Wyclef Jean and actor George Clooney brought together over 100 celebrities who volunteered their time to help raise money for this international cause.
