Twilight hunk Taylor Lautner tucks some cash back into his wallet after treating his on-and-off-again girlfriend Sara Hicks to some delicious Mexican food at Chipotle restaurant on Wednesday afternoon (July 22) in Los Angeles.
On Saturday, the 17-year-old actor will make an appearance at the Comic-Con convention to promote New Moon with his co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
We just finished shooting Twilight’s Taylor Lautner for our December issue’s Man of Style feature! While we can’t tell you everything the New Moon star told us about working with Kristen Stewart and transforming his body for the role just yet, here are a few choice bits to hold all you “Team Jacob” fans over ’til the issue and behind-the-scenes video come out this November:
FIVE THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT TAYLOR
1. He doesn’t have a Facebook or Twitter account, though he says plenty of people pose as him online.
2. He’s a major Red Bull fan and drank it throughout our shoot.
3. His favorite band, U2, is performing in Vancouver this summer, where he’ll be shooting Eclipse!
4. He can’t live without his leather jacket, so stylist Matthew Edelstein pulled this John Varvatos jacket for the shoot.
5. He drives a black BMW 5 series but is more into football than cars.
Becoming a movie heartthrob is never easy and Taylor Lautner is handling it with as much patience and class that you could expect for a 17-year-old whose become instantly recognizable to almost every teenage girl in his peer group. So, when this writer and a number of journalists visited the set of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” in May, Lautner was kind enough to journey to the Vancouver studio during his offtime to chat about the highly-anticipated sequel. It’s well documented how much work Lautner did to gain the muscle mass to play Jacob, a character that is described as physically imposing in Stephenie Meyer’s books.
Lautner spoke in detail to the few reporters on hand about his training regime, meeting “Eclipse” director David Slade or the first time and how painful it is to play Jacob’s unrequited love for Bella.
(Oh, and in case there was any doubt, this writer did not ask how often Lautner spends shirtless in “New Moon.”)
Q: Were you doing any stunts today?
I’ve been doing a lot recently, yeah. The cool thing is, they’ve pretty much let me do most of my stunts. I got to do all the dirt bike riding, I got to do this really cool sequence that I’m actually not going to tell you about, because I want you to wait to see it. But yeah, the stunts have definitely been my favorite part so far.
Q: What physical preparation did you have to do to get ready for the stunt work?
Well, I had to put on some weight. (Laughs.) While filming ‘Twilight,’ I knew that Jacob’s character transforms, not only emotionally and mentally but also physically, so I immediately, the day after filming Twilight, hit the gym, started eating a lot – good food – trying to pack on pounds. And here I am, thirty pounds heavier!
Q: Was it harder or easier than you thought it would be?
The actual getting into the gym and working out process was easier, but the eating was harder. Because I had to eat, and everyone’s like ‘Are you kidding me? I’d love to eat like that!’ I had to eat every two hours. At one point, my trainer said, ‘Put anything in your mouth. Go to McDonald’s, get the biggest shake possible, I just need to get calories in you.’ Because my body fat at the time was only, like, seven and a half percent.
Q: So you were on the Michael Phelps diet?
When rumors surfaced last year that 17-year-old Taylor Lautner would not appear in the Twilight sequel because he was too physically slight to portray a bookworm-turned-werewolf, a great shriek rose from Fangirl Island. “Noooooo!!” wrote one obsessive on a Twilight discussion board. “omg. Pleezze let Taylor come back,” implored another. Some were more militant: “If they don’t put him in . . . there will be a massive Twilight fan attack!”
The producers opted not to mess with their core constituency. While Twilight was ringing up $380 million at the box office and becoming one of the top pop-culture phenomena of the past year, Lautner was busy packing on 30 pounds of -muscle at the gym. His character, Jacob Black, the platonic best friend of heroine Bella Snow (played by Kristen Stewart), transforms in New Moon from a likable klutz into a member of a wolf pack. Likewise, the film gives Lautner a chance to bust out of more than his shirts, challenging co-star Robert Pattinson’s dominance of both the teen mags and the movie’s monster love-story narrative.
After an unusually chaotic post-release period that saw Pattinson shear off his -vampire hair (noooooo!), Stewart photographed on the steps of her L.A. apartment smoking what appeared to be weed, and director Catherine Hardwicke replaced by American Pie helmer Chris Weitz, the cast reunited—a lot more famous—in Vancouver last March to begin -filming New Moon. The sequel shakes up the central trio—teen vampire Edward (Pattinson), his devoted Bella, and her best friend Jacob—sending Edward packing, turning Jacob into a werewolf, and heating up the love–triangle element as Jacob makes a play for Bella in Edward’s absence. Frost/Nixon’s Michael Sheen joins the fray as a vampire leader, and the sequel’s scoreboard reads werewolves vs. vampires.
Lautner grew up in Michigan and L.A., a youthful karate star who transitioned at the age of 12 from martial arts to acting in benign cinematic family fare like The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Portland, Oregon will be full of Twilight fans this July 4 as they turn out to see several stars from the vampire movie play baseball for charity.
A number of cast and crew from Twilight and the upcoming New Moon have joined fan sites and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon to stage the event. While the famous movie scene of superhumanly fast and dangerous vampire baseball might not be recreated, the excitement will be high when a few lucky fans are picked from the crowds to play with the celebrities.
Unfortunately though, only 10% of the profits will go to charity, and Twilight stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are unable to attend this vampire baseball event, though Peter Farcinelli, Rachelle Lefevre and Edi Gathegi will be playing.

More details of the upcoming “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon” have been shared through “Sexy Stars of Twilight” book from Us Weekly. In a 72-page homage to “Twilight” stars, the secrets of “New Moon”, photos from the vampire drama’s set as well as some photos of the Quileute wolf pack are unraveled.
The special edition book, which is available for $9.99 on newsstands Friday, June 26, and for order on Barnes & Noble, contains an essay on the Bella and Edward’s love story as well. Four posters of heartthrob Robert Pattinson, one of Taylor Lautner, one of Rob and Kristen Stewart, and one for the cast are also featured in addition to cast interviews and a look at the new stars such as Dakota Fanning and Michael Sheen.
Aside from the “New Moon” stuff, the book also shares a peek at the stars when they’re living their lives off-set. In it, pictures of Kristen’s rise to Hollywood are also compiled.
“The Twilight Saga’s New Moon” revolves around Bella Swan as she is left devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire lover Edward. But, her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and she finds her loyalties tested.
An adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s second novel in her “Twilight” series, this “Twilight” sequel has wrapped up its principal photography and fallen into its post-production. Penned by “Twilight” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, it is directed by “The Golden Compass” helmer Chris Weitz. The vampire drama movie is targeting a U.S. release on November 20.

Taylor Lautner really needs some support.
Robert Pattinson has so many fans that it’s making Taylor look unpopular. Earlier this week, it was thought that New Moon actor Peter Facinelli had joined Team Jacob but now it seems he isn’t a Jacob supporter at all.
Taylor’s fans had seen some messages on Peter’s twitter page and thought that Peter was saying that he was on Taylor’s side.
Peter has now posted the message: “There’s been some confusion. The Team Jacob was a RT-retweet from someone else.
“I am and always will be Team Edward. Sorry. I know, Nepotism.”
Poor Taylor! At least he can expect more fans when New Moon hits cinemas in November.
